ABOUT

The landing net is a commodity piece of equipment that must be trusted to preform at the most crucial moment in fishing. Frabill, the industry leader in landing nets, saw an influx of competitors and were looking to re-position themselves as leaders in the industry. We designed a line of innovative landing nets that pushed the boundaries in the category, all anchored in angler insights.

PROTOTYPING + TESTING

Using existing products and raw materials, we created mockups to demonstrate the vision of each “big idea” that came from our initial research and ideation. We brought around 40 ideas into research with anglers in South Carolina + Minnesota.

We saw opportunities in one-handed netting for both kayaks and boats. Jason (right) was a kayak angler who loved the bearclaw concept, and was excited about illumination for his early mornings on the lake.

REFINEMENT

We refined the elements that tested well in research before implementing them into our final design. We also explored manufacturing solutions and tested different spring-loaded architectures for the power extend.

VISUAL BRAND LANGUAGE

Fishing aesthetic is often pulled directly from power tools and hunting equipment, despite the sport’s more fluid nature. We strove to balance these traditionally chiseled, tough elements with clean lines and a modern fluidity.
